Sab teachers kahan gai?

In Pakistan we don't have teachers. No really we don't. We just have lecturers. The worst thing is this applies to school teachers as well as life teachers. The teacher stands in front of the class. She tells them about xyz subject and then gives homework, which students are supposed to do at home without any help from this teacher.

Students should get life lessons in school through experience. Not just by telling them this is the answer: jao jaake jaad karo! Aisa lagta hai  they are trying to prove how vast their knowledge is, rather than teaching any student, how to do things in life.

Jahan tak ke in kindergarten kids don't learn to connect the dots. the just learn to fill in the blanks. Ratta lagao aur pass ho jao. It seems their target is to make every child feel small, dumb, incompetent and insecure.

In the rest of the world teacher try to make theirs students understand things, hoping to spark self confidence, insight or even passion. If a kid doesn't understand 2+2=4. Their teacher will show sweets, apples, money to show every time 2 and 2 is 4.

Even when a child is at home, they are lectured about life, respect and other matters by every adult that crosses their path. Lessons are never thought by hearing, but always by doing. Tell the children: Jao koshish karo, I know you can do it. So if at first you don't succeed, try, try again!

Teachers are supposed to give children a reason to love learning and school. We speak of Rasool-e-pak with so much love and respect. Because he taught us to love life. Do good and feel good, and our community will be better.  Can't we follow in his footsteps and teach our kids through experience? If they learn how to fall in childhood, they won't fall when grown up. Humme apni kaum ko Khudkafeel, khudmukhtaar aur himmatwala banana hai.

End of lecture ; P

Hum sab SHER hain!

In Pakistan we all aspire to live like the king of the jungle. Hum sab Sher hain! Zahir hai who wouldn't like to live like a lion?

A lion doesn't hunt himself, he lies aroung looking ferocious. But it's the lioness that hunts the food, raises the cubs and protects her territory.  Lions, if  it's not too much trouble, have a tendency to dominate the kill once the lionesses have succeeded.

Lions are more likely to share with the cubs than with the lionesses, but rarely share food they have killed by themselves. Agar khana kam hai to khudh hi kha lete hain. Agar zyaada hai to ghar laa ke baat ke khate hain.

Geedar ( Jackalls) however hunt in pairs and stay with their spouse for life. Both work for a living. Offspring live with  them until they are old enough to start pack of their own. Jackalls distribute food to their kids first. And koi unki spouse ko nazar to utha ke dekhe.......!!

Now you deceide Sher ho ya Geedar?

Paisa bolta hai!

In Pakistan we need money. And lot’s of it. Mainly because like USA we are a capitalist nation. We pay very few taxes, so we are responsible for our own savings. We have to save for houses, pensions, unemployment, study and weddings.
Unfortunately we don’t talk about money mostly. It is considered rude in most families to talk about money with children, no matter what their age is. We consider it a personal injury to been asked how we spent the money given to us for errands. Hisaab dena aur lena humare shaan ke khilaaf hai. This is where we are wrong. Hisaab lena aur dena is not about mistrust and pride. It about clarity and honesty.

Education
Jab koi bacha bread le ke aata hai use hum bil aur hisaab lene ke bajae, sirf bread lelete hain. This is wrong. You can give your children money, as much as you like but tell them, itne ki bread lana aur itne rupai tumhare. We assume the children know this, but they don’t learn  anything than money grows on trees and when we spend what we have more comes automatically . We need to give the Pocket money according to their age. And with pocket money we need to give them the responsibility too, also according to their age. Older children can get clothing money too. Of course all this is with accountability. It is their money, but they are still your children so your rules still apply.

Communication
We need to start talking about money to our loved ones. Give account to your husband when you have gone shopping so he knows where his hard earned money is being spent. Ask hisaab to your son when he goes shopping for you. Tell your parents about your dreams and aspirations, so they can help you accomplish them, by saving for your study. Tell your husband what birthdays and events are coming up, so your husband knows he needs to provide enough money for a gift. Etc. Talk about money to your wife in front of your children , not just in private.  Not just when you don’t have money, but also when you do have money.
Talk about what you will be saving it for and what you will be spending it on. Spending money is not just about needs, it is about choices and responsibility too! Your family needs to understand this. Is liye kehti hoon ke paisa bolta hai!

Baaton hi baaton mein!

Baaton hi baaton mein!

In Pakistan talk is cheap. People just talk and talk and talk, to no avail. In our society talking is a great pastime, be it about politics, our relatives or anything else. No one gives a second thought to what they are saying  and why. In all the chitter chatter of life we forget that words have great power. But often times words render us powerless.

We love to play word games. Ishaaron mein kabhi mazaaq, to kabhi tanz. Kabhi attack to kabhi defense. We think we know best and all others are too dumb to answer. But instead of winning a verbal debate with this behavior, we end up doing more damage than we can imagine.

We hurt people we love in this game. So much even that 25 years after you spoke those words, someone might recall them and cry! Or even worse: how often have we heard of a youngster committing suicide because of verbal abuse by their parents or  teacher.  Socho your words can even take a life!

But your words can also Make a life. If what you say is positive, honest and genuine. Yaad hai woh waqt,  when you were 8 and your father said proudly: mera beta to bohot kitabein parta hai, he just loves books.  Didn't it make you love books ( even more)?

When you start saying mere pyare bete before sending him for an errand, not only will you see him grow, but so will your love for him! Words not only express our feelings, they create and enhance them too! Start by being kind in speaking about your loved ones aur dekho woh kya kehte hain! But most importantly say kind things about yourself, tum bhi apne hoji!

Our prophet is welknown for his soft and kind speech. Speak of good in others, and in Islam, to baaton hi baaton mein dunya aur aakhirat dono ban sakti hain.

The pen is mightier than the sword!

The pen is mightier than the sword, but nothing beats a tongue!

In Pakistan talk is cheap. People just talk and talk and talk, to no avail. In our society talking is a great pastime, be it about politics, our relatives or anything else.

No one gives a second thought to what they are saying  and why. In all the chitter chatter of life we forget that words have great power. Kaala jaado aur kya hota hai, just the right words in the right sequence on the right time. And poof words become reality.

We love to play word games. Ishaaron mein kabhi mazaaq, to kabhi tanz. Kabhi attack to kabhi defence. We think we know best and all others are too dumb to answer. We fool ourselves into thinking we have great power, because we rendered the opposition speechless.

But instead of just hurting others with this behavior, we end up doing more damage than we can imagine to ourselves. We loose our creditably, people close to us start second guessing every thing we say: is he saying to put me down, to humiliate me or are they truly just joking?

The words we speak to put down others slowly but surely poison our own minds.  We start believing all others are like us! We can't laugh at a joke, without thinking: Yeh mujhe keh raha hai!

They poison our hearts too! Very slowly we start believing what we say is true! We start thinking badly of every one! This is the power of words!  When we speak kindly and softly, with reverence and izzat, we do become softer and kinder, more at peace with the world and ourselves. Our words reflect our reality, they describe what we see and feel.

This Ramadan, be generous and happy. Describe beauty Allah surrounds us with, with grandness and openness. So the pen is mightier than the sword, but nothing beats a tongue!
