Ramadan is a month of self reflection, peace and patience. It is a time to feel another's thirst, hunger and pain. A time to share in the wealth of every kind that Allah has given us. A time to be kind and grateful.
Lekin mera dil.... mera dil ro raha hai.....My heart bleeds for Karachi, our beautiful city that seems to be at war with itself. The riots, the constant fighting, burning shops and bleeding hearts. How many people will lose their loved ones, their next of kin and their livelihoods? I can't help but wonder where and why the inhabitants of Karachi have lost their unity and brotherhood.
Wouldn't it be great if the spirit of Ramadan would heal our beautiful city? What if every street and muhalla had a common aftari every week. Every household, rich or poor, sunni or shia, big or small would join in.
Every household would bring 1 dish made for their own household plus 5 people, drinks same thing: 1 drink just enough for their household plus 5 people. At the aftari we would put all the dishes on a buffet table. And everyone help yourself and enjoy eat other's banquet and company. Wouldn't it be great?
Let's join hands and make these dreams possible. These are just little things anybody can do. Low-budget big impact.
Whatever you decide: have a wonderful aftari. Bismillah karo ji!
